5 STARS - Plumber's Bible
By Ralph Noa on September 29, 2015
This is an awesome resource. I would consider it a bible for plumbing. Very informative, easy to understand. I purchased it specifically to learn how to rough our plumbing in a new house, as well as determine plumbing needs for the new house. I've done simple plumbing jobs in that past, but now feel confident in my ability to do the job. Peter Hemp also provides insight in the tools you will need and gives his recommendations on which ones to obtain. He also gives insight into the variety of materials that plumbing is available in, what situations to utilize that material, etc. He gives formulas and methodologies you can use to determine pipe size to meet your water sources psi and how to match the DWV (drain, waste, vent) plumbing your house will require. I also have a new healthy respect for plumbers.
5 STARS - The Book I've Been Looking For!
By Aaron Gilbert on January 17, 2020
I have already read through the entire PEX chapter and am getting into the DWV section. I am thoroughly enjoying the book – the writing style, thoroughness, and even humor, make this one of the best how-to books I've ever read. It's clear that this is the book I've been looking for, to actually design the plumbing systems for our new house. All the other plumbing books I've skimmed through seem to exclude the design portion, or relegate it to a handful of pages, dealing almost exclusively with installing or replacing fixtures. This is one I actually am enjoying reading every single word. :)
5 STARS - A Wealth of Knowledge
By Douglas Glanz on April 28, 2020
I am in the process of building a lake home that will have 5.5 bathrooms and will be plumbing it myself. I was looking for a good book to help with designing a plumbing system to code. Most books that I have read have limited sections on designing your own system. It is a wealth of knowledge that is easy to follow. Thanks for making it available to the masses. [May 5, 2020 Update, Post Inspection: My inspector was very impressed with what I did and said this was one of the largest residential projects he had seen. After the inspection, showed him a copy of your book. I passed my inspection.]
5 STARS - Comprehensive, Complete, Educational
By Shawn M. Nance on April 24, 2003
After searching a few videos and visiting the local hardware store, I was frustrated at the lack of information available about the specifics of general plumbing. Plumbers must hate this book because it outlines in detail many of the tricks of the trade. I am building my own home and have obtained all of the information I need to perform the job in this book with the exception of the septic system. There are plenty of illustrations that cover everything from tool and material selection, to rough in plumbing and finish plumbing. The writer obviously knows a thing or two about plumbing, as I was able to avoid several pitfalls by following the advice in the book. This is hands down the only plumbing book you need, unless you need septic information, which this book does not cover at all.
5 STARS - Excellent!!
By Randolph W. Flowers on January 13, 2014
As an experienced builder but an amateur plumber, I found this book to be a valuable asset. It had enough information and diagrams to help me do a near expert job plumbing our new home I'm building. I'd recommend this book to anyone. I don't think I could've found a better book to help me through the "rough-in" process and get it right the first time.
5 STARS - Book Responsible for Self-Learned Career & Trade Experience
By Aaron Bagnelli on April 29, 2020
I bought your book many years back. I learned a lot and owe you my self-learned career and trade experience. I always wanted to thank you. If you could just give me a hit to my email to let me know you got this, I would be more than delighted. Thanking you once again.
5 STARS - Should Have Read It Sooner
By Curtis Boyle on April 25, 2000
I wish I had read this book before the first remodel I attempted. I would of saved a lot of time by not learning the hard way. The book is full of practical details I haven't found in other books like how many layers of pipe tape to apply, how many threads on galvanized pipe to cut, tricks to copper sweat fitting when there is water in the line, what is the rule of thumb for the height of a sink drain. Peter being a plumber in Albany California where there is a variety of very old and new structures, I am sure he has run into all the possible problems with plumbing you can face and it shows in the book. Some experts in their field forget all the questions they had as a novice. Pete's book seems to cover all the "gotchas", the experts assume you know.
5 STARS - In-Depth Information
By Don Bishop on September 8, 2015
Professional instructions, more detail and advise than is found in the average do-it-yourself manual. Even if you don't do the work, you will be able to talk knowledgeably to the plumber.
